Isaiah 6:1-8

HERE AM I, SEND ME

“Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me.” Isaiah 6:8, NIV

The church is God’s “ecclesia”- the called out ones- who are expected to know the mind of God and establish His will on
earth. That is why Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? (Matthew 5:13, 14). That was the same vision Isaiah saw in our text. He heard God calling, seeking for those who will bear the message of the gospel to the nations.

The implication of this is that the church’s ministries must influence the society. God expects the church to preserve the society from decay and at the same time set the pace for godly values; the church is to give direction for others to follow in good things. Isaiah saw this a long time ago and so prophesied what the primary calling of the church is- “To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison...” (Isaiah 42:6, 7). The ministry of the church today too should transcend saving souls alone, but should extend to saving the system that runs our societal life also. That is what it means to be a pacesetter. Will you be on the go for God?

• Birthday Blessing: “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
