Budget Padding Saga: Sagay committee invites Jibrin

The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption has invited the former Chairman of the House of Representatives appropriation committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin over the allegations of budget padding which he levelled against Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

The Executive Secretary of the presidential advisory panel, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, in a letter, invited Jibrin to appear before it on August 31, 2016.

An excerpt of the letter obtained from Punch reads: “This is to acknowledge the receipt of your petition and request to meet with the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption.
“You are hereby invited to meet with the Committee. Date, Wednesday 31st, August.”
The committee headed by Prof. Itse Sagay, also asked Jibrin to submit a detailed petition of his allegation.
Jibrin had earlier accused Dogara and some principal officers of the House of inserting fictitious projects amounting to billions of Naira in the 2016 budget.
Speaking on the invitation, the former appropriation committee chairman described it as a sign of victory in his fight against corruption.
He said “In another victory for my journey to ensure that justice is served on Speaker Dogara, Lasun, Doguwa, Ogor and nine other members, I have received official invitation from Prof. Itse Sagay SAN, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption to make a comprehensive presentation to the committee on the allegations I raised against Mr. Speaker and others and discuss strategies on how to achieve results.”
Dogara has however dismissed the allegations, saying lawmakers are empowered to make laws, the Appropriation Act inclusive, without being questioned.
