Otedola Fire: 8 Families Show Up For DNA Testing

Eight families have showed up for DNA testing in connection with the Otedola Link Bridge fire.

The Head of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, Dr Richard Somiari, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  today.

Somiari, a forensic expert, said that more families were still expected to visit the facility in connection with the deadly explosion that occurred on June 28.

Ex-Cbn Governor, Adamu Ciroma Dies At 84

Mallam Adamu Ciroma, former Minister of Finance and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has died.

Ciroma, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died on Thursday at the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, aged 84.

Ciroma was CBN Governor between September 1975 and June 1977. He was Finance Minister at the start of the Fourth Republic, between 1999 and 2003, during the first term of President Olusegun Obasanjo in office.

He was also Chairman of Obasanjo’s 2003 re-election campaign organisation.

Three Poachers Eaten By Lions After They Broke Into South African Nature Reserve To Slaughter Rhinos

A gang of poachers who broke into a South African game reserve to hunt rhinos came off second best when they were attacked and eaten by a pride of hungry lions.

At least three hunters are believed to have been devoured by the predators, judging by the bloody scene on the Sibuya Game Reserve near Kenton-on-Sea in Eastern Province, South Africa.

One head and a number of bloodied body parts and limbs have been recovered from the area, along with three pairs of empty shoes.

Staff at Sibuya also found high powered hunting rifles with silencers, wire cutters and an axe used by poachers to cut off rhino horns.

Man Beats Wife To Death Over N200 Gift

For allegedly beating his wife to death over a N200 gift, Henry Anaele was, on Wednesday, remanded in prison for the next 30 days by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. O.O. Olatunji, said the accused should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public prosecutions.

Anaele, 40, whose plea was not taken, had appeared on a charge for murder.

FIFA Rebukes Maradona Over 'Robbery' Comments

FIFA says it “strongly rebukes” Argentina great Diego Maradona’s comments that England’s win over Colombia was a robbery and that referee Mark Geiger was not up to the task.

“Following comments made by Diego Armando Maradona...FIFA strongly rebukes the criticism of the performance of the match officials which it considers to have been positive in a tough and highly emotional match,” said the global soccer body in a statement.

Court Orders EFCC To Produce Innoson Boss

A Special Offences Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to produce the chairman of Innoson Motors Limited, Mr Innocent Chukwuma, for his arraignment.

Justice Olusola Williams made this pronouncement on Wednesday owing to the absence of Mr Chukwuma who was scheduled to be arraigned before her over allegations of forgery brought against him by the EFCC.

“I believe it is the job of the prosecution to bring the defendant to court because they are the Executives. The judge is just to make an order that he should appear in court but we cannot enforce the order; the responsibility still lies on the EFCC to make sure he is in court,” Justice Williams held.

Youth Coach George Ormond Jailed For Sexually Abusing Boys


A former Newcastle United youth team aid has been jailed for 20 years after being convicted of a string of sex abuse offences spanning 25 years.

George Ormond, 62, coached a grassroots football club in the 1970s and 1980s before going on to work for United's youth system in the 1990s.

Newcastle Crown Court heard he used his "position of power" to abuse 18 boys and young men between 1973 and 1998.

Woman Jailed 10 Years For Running Brothels In UK

A Kenyan woman who ran two brothels and enslaved a Romanian woman to fund lavish home improvements was jailed for 10 years in the UK.

Ann O’Brien, 44, and husband Martin Carroll, 47, splashed out on a loft conversion, ground floor extension, designer kitchen several giant flat screen TVs and even £10,000 curtains.

O’Brien opened her first three-girl escort agency in 1997 after leaving a small village in Kenya and heading to Ireland where she married her first husband Patrick O’Brien.

Tunisia's Capital Elects First Female Mayor

A woman from Tunisia's moderate Islamic party was elected on Tuesday as mayor of the capital city, Tunis, the first time a woman holds the post.

Souad Abderrahim, a 54-year-old pharmacist of the Ennahdha party, won the post in the second round of voting by the municipal council. She defeated her top rival, Kamel Idir, of the party Nida Tounes, founded by the Tunisian president.

Abderrahim, a former lawmaker and militant for women's rights, doesn't wear a veil. She was the only winner so far among a half-dozen women from the Ennahdha party who competed for mayoral posts in the region around Tunis.

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal on Wednesday sacked all his commissioners and asked them to hand government property to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries, in a move that foreshadows his planned move to switch to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Malam Abubakar Shekara, Director General Media and Public Affairs in Government House, announced the dissolution in a statement. Shekara explained that the dissolution would pave way for “restructuring and re-strategising the cabinet for optimum efficiency and service delivery to the people of State”.

Dancer Loses Her Legs After Boat Explodes In Bahamas

A 22-year-old dancer has lost both her legs after a boat exploded in the Bahamas, leaving a woman dead.

Stefanie Schaffer is also believed to have suffered serious internal injuries in the blast on a tour boat.

Several others were injured in the incident shortly after 9am on Saturday, and a woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was killed.

Stefanie, an American from Rutland, Vermont, was on holiday with her mother, stepfather and sister.

Joey Chestnut scored another victory at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island yesterday afternoon breaking his own record after shoving 74 wieners down his mouth, a new world record.

Chestnut's previous record was 72. Chestnut recently explainsd how he prepares for competition and looks like his method paid off because he out did his competition by almost 30 hot dogs. Carmen Cincotti came in second place with 45 dogs.

The win is Chestnut's third straight victory and 11th overall in the last 12 years, but it didn't go without incident. Oficials first said he only ate 64 dogs after a plate of 10 dogs hadn't been counted, not that it would've mattered for the win, becuase he clearly beat others to it.

Mourning Janet Jackson Going Ahead With Performance

Janet Jackson will make her headlining gig at Essence Festival despite the recent death of her father, Joe Jackson.

There was fan concern that Janet would cancel her performance after Joe passed away last week.

Sources close to Janet say she's currently en route to New Orleans for the fest where she's scheduled to perform Sunday. She has other dates lined up through August on her State of the World tour too, which she's also planning to fulfill.

Janet thanked her fans for their support during this hard time yesterday in an Instagram video, where her kid also made a small cameo.

President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday that the world is waiting to see if the Presidents coming after him will return the loots and assets being recovered by his administration from those who looted the treasury.

He noted that stolen assets seized from looters under his military rule were returned to them when he was ousted in 1983.

Buhari said his administration is selling off assets recovered from looters and putting the money in the government coffers to forestall what happened in the past.

Polygraph Test Finds Chrisland Teacher Guilty Of ‘Child Defilement’


Did a supervisor with Chrisland Schools in Lekki, Lagos, Adegboyega Adenekan, accused of defiling a 35-month-old pupil, lie about his relationship with the girl? Yes, says a report of the polygraph test conducted on him by an expert, Mr Falola Adebayo.

A polygraph machine is used to determine whether a person is deceptive or lying. Justice Sybil Nwaka of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court will on October 10 rule on the admissibility of the report.

Adenekan’s counsel Olatunde Adejuyigbe (SAN) objected to the admissibility of the report when the prosecutor, Babajide Boye, sought to tender it in evidence.

School Sacks 5 Teachers For Impregnating SS3 Student In Kebbi


Five teachers of the Polytechnic Academic Staff Secondary School Birnin Kebbi, have been sacked for impregnating an SS3 student of the school.

The girl was also expelled from the school. Sources confirmed that the decision to dismiss the five teachers followed the recommendation of a committee set up by the school to investigate the matter.

“The committee submitted report on Monday and recommended that all the five teachers should be dismissed from service immediately.

A 37-year-old man, Leo Columbus, told reporters in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, yesterday that he set his three-year-old niece ablaze because she defecated in a neighbour’s house in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

Columbus said he did not intend to kill her but acted out of anger because of the child’s behaviour.
The man, who was among the 50 suspects paraded by Police Commissioner Hafiz Inuwa for various offences, said he started taking care of the child, his brother’s daughter, two years ago.

Tina Turner's Oldest Son Commits Suicide At 59


Tina Turner's oldest son Craig Raymond Turner has committed suicide. Craig was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, aged 59, at his home in Studio City, California on Tuesday, TMZ reports.

Craig was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.38pm and Los Angeles County coroner's office assistant chief Ed Winter confirmed his death was being reported as suicide, although the official autopsy is pending.

His famous mother Tina, 78, who was seen attending Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week just a few short hours before her son was found dead, was just 18 when she gave birth to Craig, whose father was a saxophonist named Raymond Hill.

Thunder Kills Ojukwu Varsity Student


Vincent Uche Mbanefo, an undergraduate of the Anambra State University, Igbariam, was yesterday struck to death by thunder following a heavy downpour.

Mbanefo, a 100-level student of Agriculture Extension, was said to be alone in his Achalla Logde about 5pm when the incident happened.

A student, who pleaded for anonymity, said the deceased was found lifeless with his skin turned to black.

However, 2018 is a lot different. Lionel Messi’s Barcelona crashed out of the UEFA Champions League is the quarterfinals and Ronaldo’s Real Madrid finished third in La Liga. Though Ronaldo lifted his third Champions League title in a row, he was not at his consistent best.
