Goodbye Rasheed…, By Wole Soyinka

In strict terms of course, the artistic world never lost Rasheed. That was where his soul was, and he manifested it in the commitment that made him turn his estate into a vast exhibition gallery of Nigerian painters, to which many flock till today.
He still owes me a visit. After he spied a rug from his factory years ago, on which a lion had been emblazoned, it became even more pressing. He revealed that he had seen that design and decided that it belonged to me, nowhere else, so he

Porn, Weed and Trump, By Ose

Trump won because the Democrats ignored the memo. This was not your father’s election. This was your grandkid’s electorate. America wanted a show and they got the biggest showman. If Democrats wanted to win and wanted a woman president, they should have ran Kim Kardashian.
For many, last Tuesday was the end of the world.
Or, the end of the world since the United States Supreme Court declared George W. Bush the American President in 2000.

What Happens To Buildings Seized By EFCC? | Vanguard

The report, a few weeks ago, that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seized a building worth two billion naira from a former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, has raised questions on what the Federal Government intends to do with such confiscated structures.
It is only one of several hundred houses, hotels, commercial buildings and parcels of land now reportedly in the custody of the EFCC, though most of them are still under litigation. The major task before the President Muhammadu Buhari regime is to come up with a transparent and accountable means of disposing these property and assets in such a manner as to prevent people close to the corridors of power from taking them over through the backdoor.

Trump and America’s Mainstream Media | TheNation

SIR: On November 8, the entire world woke up to the rude shock that the United States had elected a newbie. The angered electorate had picked the unlikely candidate. The mainstream media and alternative media – print, online, TV, local and international – were all awash with news, photos and videos of Hillary Clinton supporters weeping uncontrollably, while supporters of Donald Trump were seen mostly in an ecstatic state, relishing their victory. They could hardly be consoled. An “evil” appeared to have been done. A prank had just been played. It was a truly pathetic scene. The reason was obvious: there was a new sheriff in town, and it was none other than Donald J. Trump! The irony is that the overly partisan mainstream media was entirely to blame for this.

Ooh, America; That Hurts | Punch

I watched the United States of America election night result from the comfort of a hotel room in beautiful Mauritius. The first indication I had that things were going awry was when my woman asked me why I kept running off to the toilet at frequent intervals. As everybody now knows, the unthinkable happened.
America held up a mirror to itself – had its own “mirror, mirror on the wall…” moment – and what stared back was an ugly core.

Who’s In Charge Of NNPC?, By Azu Ishiekwene

The real elephant in the room is Buhari approving the changes before Kachikwu found out. It’s yet another sad chapter in the greasy tale of the NNPC, a beast that apparently consumes the reform and the reformer.
In Anthony Sampson’s bestseller, The Seven Sisters, sleaze and oil go hand-in-hand. If there was a Nigerian version of that book, not only will sleaze and oil go hand-in-hand, they’ll be inseparable bedmates, with incompetence as their guardian angel.

'Poverty Killing Poverty’ Aremu Afolayan Lambaste Those Who Murdered ‘7-Year Old Boy’

I still wonder why people think that guy was 7. Already when things happen, please go on twitter and read from live witnesses. Go on twitter and hear people’s experiences from such in the past. One or two would have experienced it. Almost everyone is on the internet now, life is better. News, happenings comes out fast now. Please note that what they did is absolutely wrong, they would have just held him and hand him over to the police. Now handing him over to the police won’t change his life, hence people must insist he is sent to a corrective home, so his life can turn out better. Actor Aremu Afolayan has however waded into the matter (he got it wrong tho) that guy wasn’t 7 and placed a curse on those who carried out the act. He also cursed the Nigerian Government. But wait let me form posh small, did Aremu actually speak like that? Those Yoruba words are too strong, yepa! What What?? Bro you are razz jor, lol. What he wrote;

Koni dafun gbogbo eyin ti e sun omo 7years old (what?) all because he stole something.aiye governmenti naigeria ode ni da. (What why are you so razzm lol)gbogbo awon ti won dawo jo lati pa omoyi, ile yin ma jona ni.i really wish you all no the meaning of poverty and what it turns people to be. #RIP BOI.😡😡😡 #evilnigerians #foolishnaijas poverty killing poverty foolish people ole npa ole😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

The Woman Who Dared Death By Fola Ojo

It was November 2014 in Nigeria. I was instructing in a church located in a city in a South-West state when this beautiful young woman approached me after the session. She was all smiles; beaming with effulgence and radiating with refulgence as she held on to her equally beautiful six-year-old daughter. I thought she wanted to tell me she had won the US Visa Lottery and seeking a sponsor. I have met and helped a few in times past. But her story was uniquely different. She wanted me to hold her hands in a prayer of agreement. Readers, for the purpose of this treatise, I’ll call her Ann.

Soyinka and Trump’s Illegitimate Kids, By Louis Odion

So, to the cowards who today luxuriate in the anonymity of the cyber space, against the aforementioned heritage of uncommon sacrifice in pursuit and defense of noble values and honour, how much weight does a mere American Green Card carry?
This must be a depressing hour indeed for the man who “fashioned the drama of existence” and first black Nobel prize winner in Literature, Professor Wole Soyinka. A comment uttered in what could only be a protest against the willful trampling on the dignity of African immigrants and other “underdogs” has, alas, been twisted out of its moral joint and now forms the singsong of some idle parrots, the horde of little minds, barricading the social media.
