When Morning Gilds the Skies | Anonymous/Unknown

  1. When morning gilds the skies,
    My heart awaking cries:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Alike at work and prayer,
    To Jesus I repair;
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
  2. Does sadness fill my mind?
    A solace here I find,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Or fades my earthly bliss?
    My comfort still is this,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!

Revealed: Why Dalung’s Meeting With Avengers Failed — Facilitators By Soni Daniel

For the first time since the flop of the parley, major factors that aborted a planned meeting between the Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Comrade Solomon Dalung, and key Niger Delta militant leaders, emerged last night.
The facilitator of the failed meeting, Jude Tabai and former Special Adviser to Bayelsa Governor on Security, told Saturday Vanguard that the minister messed up the meeting by claiming that he was ‘going to Oporoza to meet with Niger Delta Avengers’, a claim that infuriated the natives of the Ijaw community even before his arrival. “Niger Delta Avengers do not reside in Oporoza” Tabai, who claims to have deep knowledge of the Niger Delta and all the major actors in the Niger Delta imbroglio, told Saturday Vanguard, adding that the natives of the community felt they were being stigmatized as ‘harbingers’ of evil men. “What happened was that I took the minister as Oporoza in what was supposed to be a ‘coded visit’ that was to known to only concerned ‘stakeholders’ in the militant camps.

Do They Know We Are Suffering? By Ayo Oyoze Baje

“Your leaders have no respect for their people.
They believe that their personal interests are the interests of the people.
They take people’s resources and turn them into personal wealth.
There is a level of poverty in Nigeria that should be unacceptable.”
-Nelson Mandela
The statistics are simply scary. One is talking about the inexcusable social inequality and injustice in Nigeria. These are characterised by the pervasive poverty level, the irredeemably corrupt, conscienceless, kleptomaniac ruling elite; blindly driven by the greed for personal gains and of course, the grinding wheels of the acquiescent and ignorant led majority.

      Earth like heaven seems to be;

The Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, yesterday stated that banks are now mandated to accept dividend warrants into the savings account of investors and as well get them enrolled free of charge in the e-Dividend Mandate Management System (e-DMMS) platform.
This is coming after the announcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, directing banks to accept deposit of cheques into savings accounts. It will be recalled that CBN via circular referenced BPS/DIR/GEN/CIR/03/005 dated 28th July, 2016 instructed banks to allow customers with Bank Verification Number, BVN, to deposit cheques into their savings account. The management of SEC, in a statement available to Vanguard said, “As part of several measures to put an end to the growth in unclaimed dividends in Nigeria, the SEC had engaged the CBN and other stakeholders on key initiatives.

Railways And Political Backwardness in Nigeria By Owei Lakemfa

NIGERIA’s first speed train rolled off on July 26 in a roar of controversy. The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, held it up as its achievement. Its vociferous hailers claimed that it was completed due to the seriousness of its government. They presented it as an abandoned project by the Goodluck Jonathan government which they claimed, failed to pay the needed counterpart funding.
The completion of the project to them, is an indication that the APC has a lot of good projects in store for Nigerians. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, denied the project was starved of funds.

Butchers of Juba By Owei Lakemfa

When I watched South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit make a short speech on the floor of the African Union, AU, Heads of State conference in January 2013, I was impressed. He said King Mohammed VI of Morocco had called to congratulate him on the independence of South Sudan from Sudan. But he had retorted that Morocco should likewise let Western Sahara be free.
That struck a chord in me. I thought he was progressive and Pan Africanist; the type of leader we need on the continent. I did not expect less from a man who was with John Garang in the long struggle for independence from Sudan. For about five decades, South Sudan had fought for independence and when the opportunity of a United Nations-supervised referendum presented itself in January 2011, the people voted 98.83 percent for independence.

Chronic injustices! By Donu Kogbara

We often simplistically refer to “The North” as if it is a monolithic unit. It is easy to forget that there are actually different Northerners and that a significant number are not Hausa-Fulanis or members of the Sunni Muslim majority.
This complex diversity – and the tensions it generates – was highlighted during a recent bloody clash between the Army and a Shiite Muslim group in Kaduna State…and in a sad and thought-provoking letter that a Christian engineer from a minority tribe in Borno State sent me a couple of days ago.
Here are some excerpts:
