Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has described the celebration by the federal government over the release of 21 Chibok girls by the Boko Haram group as a tactic employed by the government to divert the attention of Nigerians away from the hunger in the country.

Fayose made the claim in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti state on Thursday, October 13 during the inaugurating a block of four classrooms built for the Erelu Angela Adebayo Children’s Home.

About 21 senior officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria were on Wednesday sacked in a major shake-up.

Those affected, including directors, general managers and deputy general managers, were reportedly handed their termination of appointment letters.

Afe Babalola, who spoke at the foundation laying ceremony of the new Ekiti State judiciary complex, on Wednesday, said “I’m sad over the attack on the judges. These people are not criminals, but you went to their house in the midnight and released them in the morning. That means they are available. So, why invade their homes?”

If the DSS is to be believed—and I see no reason not to—the raids netted an astonishing haul of cash the targeted judges had stowed away in their homes. The implied subtext is that the judges are rogue, that they sell their verdicts to the highest bidder, that they have besmirched their exalted seats.

Security operatives on Tuesday arrested five suspects for allegedly stealing diesel at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.

The suspects were caught with nine 25-litre and one 50-litre jerrycans containing diesel.

The Volkswagen Golf with number plate, Abuja BV 464 RSH, allegedly used for the operation was also impounded.

A leader of the Joint Monitoring Team of the National Assembly complex, Mr. Usman Labaran, toldPUNCH Metro that the suspected thieves carried out the operation with the aid of an insider. He said one of the two workers in the complex involved in the crime was arrested, while the other escaped.

Nigerians who in the past questioned the conduct of many judges, but had no way of prompting investigations despite having evidence of wrongdoing, are inundating the State Security Service with petitions after last weekend’s arrest of seven judges, security sources said Wednesday.

The petitioners accuse the judges of fraud and want the SSS to widen its investigation beyond judges already penciled down for probe and possible prosecution.

“It’s like everyone who has had cause to go to court for one reason or the other has been a victim,” one SSS source told PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday.

Anti-Shiite violence spreads to Kano, Sokoto, Katsina; 8 killed

No fewer than eight members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, Nigeria’s foremost Shi’ite group, were killed on Wednesday as violence against the group spread to other northern states.

While one member of the group was killed in Sokoto State, three other members were killed and two policemen injured in Katsina State while commemorating its religious rite called “Ashura.”

There were unconfirmed reports that nine Shiites were killed in Katsina during the Ashura procession.

The group said in a statement late Wednesday that at least 13 of its members were killed in multiple clashes with the police and some hoodlums in Funtua, Sokoto and Kaduna.

After 22 Days In Detention For Criticising Governor, Nigerian Blogger Gets Bail

A Nigerian blogger has been granted bail after he was detained for 22 days for a blog post.

Jamil Mabai was arrested on September 19 by the police for a post on his blog where he criticised the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, for buying coffins with public funds despite owing workers salaries.

On Wednesday, Mr. Mabai was granted bail by Justice Maikaita Bako of the Katsina State High Court, after spending time at the central prison in Katsina.

The blogger’s lawyer, Job Israel, said his client expects to be freed later on Wednesday having met the bail conditions.

ABUJA-To ensure that the Nigerian society was completely purged of corruption, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the anti-corruption war would be holistic and thorough to the extent that even the political associates and friends of President Muhammadu Buhari would not be spared.

Osinbajo who reiterated that the president had zero tolerance for corruption emphasized that he would never cover for his friends.

We all must have heard one or two people dismissing cheating with a wave of the hand, saying stuff like ‘cheating is a normal thing’ or ‘all men/women cheat.’

Such statements are based on the regularity with which they have encountered, experienced and heard of cases of infidelity.

No matter how rampant cheating and unfaithfulness has become, though, it remains totally wrong.

For some reasons, we all make certain wrong decisions that often come back to haunt us badly. It's in our nature as humans and it's just fine to make wrong moves and learn from them.

There isn’t nothing farther from the truth.

If you want to remain happy in your relationship, marital or marriage-intended, you need to understand that one spouse, one partner always gives more than the other.

A few years ago, while in my first year as a classroom teacher, I had posed the above question to my students. It was during a lesson in career counselling and the starry-eyed teenagers bustled with excitement and enthusiasm. As was expected in a career session, the entire class came alive with dreams about their future. It was a privilege for me to have played a part in the formation of their future.

But the response to my question had become obvious even before I had uttered the last word. In a class of 30, none of those teenage boys and girls had fancied a future in the teaching profession. As a young teacher, it was a rude awakening for me. My students didn’t want to be like me. They had fancied a career in engineering, law, medicine accounting. And yes, they wanted to be petroleum engineers. Working in multinational oil companies had become classroom fantasy!
