One Physician To 3,500 Patients, Yet Nigerian Doctors Beg For Posting By Tunde Ajaja

Reluctant to open the bottle of chilled drink in front of her at a restaurant where she agreed to meet our correspondent that hot afternoon, having a drink with a reporter in a restaurant was the last thing she wanted at such a critical time, but for the situation she found herself in and the need to vent her frustration by speaking out.
Dr. Oguntuase Moyosola, as she introduced herself, had many issues to worry about, thus, her disposition speaks loudly of a frustrated mind. Her situation is entirely understandable and one would not blame the 27-year-old anyway. Her present situation reeks of frustration, in contrast to how she felt about eight years ago when she secured admission into the prestigious University of Benin to study Medicine and Surgery.

Goodbye, Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr., By ‘Tope Oriola

Overall, I was impressed by KSW’s fine mind. His perspective was nuanced — the type that can come from someone with a front row seat in life’s amphitheatre. As I gaze at the photographs of Ken and I from the day of the interview, Ken’s voice rings through my computer. I am left wondering: Why do the good ones die young? What a world! Goodbye, KSW.
Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr. and I met at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua centre in Abuja in 2010 when I was conducting research for my book Criminal Resistance? The Politics of Kidnapping Oil Workers. I was eager to interview the scion of the Saro-Wiwa family. I was particularly interested in the symbolism of the extrajudicial assassination of the Ogoni Nine (including Ken’s father) and the turn to explicitly violent repertoires of protest in the Niger Delta. Ken sent me a text a few days after my interview with Alhaji Asari Dokubo. Ken was planning to travel to London and wanted to know if I was still in Abuja, so we could have the interview before his departure. It was quite thoughtful of him. I was no longer in Abuja but flew the following morning to meet him at the Nicon Hilton Hotel.

We also need a national policy on entrepreneurship development. The most successful and leading enterprises in the country are owned largely by foreigners, with our people being minority shareholders. Should FG Reintroduce Tollgates? | Punch

The prices of goods and services are on the increase daily with no commensurate rise in wages. You don’t’ wake up one day and come up with an idea to reintroduce tolls. Was there due consultation between the public and the people representing the government? Do they have strategic partnerships that can hold government accountable? Who will be the technical partners of this project? What is the budget earmarked for the project? How will it be executed? When will it be executed? What will the proceeds be used for? Is there a revenue sharing formula between the project investors? These are the questions government has to consider before concluding whether or not to reintroduce the tollgates. The budgets of the federal and state governments have been severely affected by the recent recession, no doubt.
