N3.6b Car: Lawmaker explains why Reps decided to buy 360 vehicles

The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Jonathan Gaza has defended the decision of the Green Chambers to buy 360 vehicles worth N3.6b.

The House of Representatives came under fire for deciding to spend such an amount on cars during an economic recession.
Gaza, while speaking on the issue, stated that the vehicles are not the personal properties of the lawmakers.

He also said that the recession will not stop the Federal Government or the lawmakers from doing their work.

Gaza said “In a recession, we will all put on our thinking caps. We are working; these are committees’ cars and they are not the personal property of members.

“When you came here today, how did you come? Did you walk down to this place (National Assembly) from your house?

“If a member is going to visit an agency, will he trek there?
“We need materials, computers, stationery, cars; these are all for work.”
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) also slammed the House of Representatives for ordering 360 cars worth N3.6b.
