Can You Please Wait

CAN YOU PLEASE WAIT?
“I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth-Praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.  Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.” (Psalm 40:1-5).

David waited for the Lord and in due season God responded. He was in deep despair. He was in a HORRIBLE PIT. A commentator described that pit as literally meaning “the sounding pit.” It is a pit “where nothing was heard except the howlings of wild beasts, or the hollow sounds of winds reverberated and broken from the craggy sides and roof.” It was a pit of destitution. He wasn’t just in a pit, he was in a MIRY CLAY. The clay is slippery and the more you stay, the more you sink! How did David survive in this figurative condition of agony and for how long I don’t know? But he told us one thing: He never stopped to pray and CRY to the Lord. A day came when the heavens responded. It was a glorious day. He was LIFTED from the miry clay, placed UPON A ROCK and his feet were established. To crown it all, a new song was placed in his mouth.

Beloved, we are in the days of everything INSTANT! The concept of waiting on the Lord is gradually fading off from the psyche of Christianity. Everything now is “LESE KESE.”  We want God to do it NOW or NEVER! Anyway, something about God is that you can’t stampede him and you can’t “threaten” him. Many go for the ALTERNATIVES when the path of waiting doesn’t “pay” them again. They opt to meet false prophets or men with diabolic powers when God seems too slow. But we all know where such journeys ends. I encourage you today, WAIT ON THE LORD and do so patiently. When you do, he will hear your cry, bring you out of the miry clay and set you on the ROCK. A new song will soon fill your mouth, because BLESSED IS THAT MAN WHO MAKES THE LORD HIS TRUST (4). The most beautiful verse in this passage is verse 5. “Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your THOUGHTS toward us cannot be recounted to You in order.” GOD’S THOUGHT FOR YOU CAN ONLY BE FULLY REALIZED IF YOU WILL WAIT FOR HIM.
