The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday released the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, from detention after more than two months in the custody.
Fani-Kayode was released about 6:30pm in Lagos on Friday after meeting his bail conditions.
The former Aviation minister, shortly after his release told newsmen, “I give thanks to God that I am free after 67 days in detention.
“This was the worst experience of my life but God was with me all the way. I suffered immeasurably but I count it all as joy.
“I am innocent of all charges and I look forward to defending myself vigorously in court. These charges are politically motivated and I have been severely punished for my political views and criticisms of the government.”
Fani-Kayode was arrested by the anti-graft agency over alleged 1.5 billion naira fraud and has been charged alongside a former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman; a firm, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited; and one Jimoh Yusuf.
The Federal High Court had granted bail in the sum of 250 million naira each, to Mr Fani-Kayode, Nenadi Usman and Danjuma Yusuf who are being tried by the EFCC for allegedly stealing and laundering about 4.9 billion Naira.
Delivering his ruling on their bail application, the trial judge, Justice Sule Hassan, held that there was no evidence that the defendants would interfere with trial if granted bail.
Fresh controversy as Dino arrives Lagos, Dares Tinubu, South west APC
The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye on Saturday defied threats from the South-West zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as flew down to Lagos and also visited Bourdillon Street in Ikoyi .
The South-West chapter of the APC had threatened to deal with him if he dares to visit the region after his spat with Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, during a closed door session of senators in Abuja on Tuesday.
The party advised him to apologise to Oluremi or stay away from the zone.
Dino was said to have threatened to manhandle the Lagos Central senator for allegedly calling him a dog and thug.
On Saturday, Dino posted pictures of his arrival at the Terminal 2 of domestic wing of Murtala Mohammed Airport on Facebook and Twitter.
He also posted a photograph of him walking down Bourdillon Avenue in Ikoyi, Lagos, an upscale street where the APC national leader lives and holds court.
Dino has also thrown shades at Tinubu, saying he had no power to end his political career.
Imo State uncovers N700m pension fraud
The Imo State Government has said that it has uncovered a high level of fraud that has been on for many years in the state Pension Board. The fraud, the sate said was allegedly perpetrated by highly placed officials in the Board in concert with some retired civil servants.
The disclosure was made recently by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Owerri, Chief Uche Nwosu in an interview with Daily Sun.
According to Nwosu, the state government discovered the fraud following an audit panel it instituted adding that those indicted by the findings have been removed including the boss of the Board and an entirely new staff deployed to the Pension Board.
The Chief of Staff stated that the fund resulted from the accumulated pension of N1.3 billion in contrast to the authentic pension of N600 million which is an increase of above 100 per cent.

The Police Service Commission said it has approved the promotion of 18 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.
A statement by PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, said the commission had elevated 37 Commissioners of Police as well as nine Deputy Commissioners of Police.
Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, Ibrahim Adamu, is now AIG, Zone 1; Abdulmajid Ali, CP, Ogun State, AIG, Zone 2 and Usman Tilli, AIG Border is now AIG zone 3.
AIG Dorathy Gimba is still in charge of the Investment Formation; AIG Mohammed Mohammed, Special Protection Unit while Mohammed Katsina was moved from Maritime to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Jos.
AIG Katsina will be replaced at the Maritime Desk by Paul Okafor, CP Benue State, the statement noted, adding that 16 CPS were retained their commands.
They include, CP Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, Ebonyi; Emmanuel Ojukwu, Enugu; Frederick Lakanu, Imo; Adeleye Oyebade, Oyo; Basen Gwana, Abia;Yunana Babas, Taraba; Austin Iwar, Gombe; Murtala Mani, Akwa Ibom and Fatai Owoseni, Lagos.
CP Henry Fadairo was also moved from Research and Planning department to Jigawa State.
The commission also moved four AIGs and deployed 12 others to man Police Zonal Commands while the remaining 10 will head special formations such as Operations, Training, Police Academy, Info-Tech, Investment, Maritime, and so on.
It stated that PSC Chairman, Sir Mike Okiro, “congratulated the officers and demanded from them hard work and dedication to duty; He said the commission will hold any of them personally responsible for any failure in the discharge of their duties.”
N25b Loan: Only creative unemployed youths’ll benefit – Ambode
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State said on Saturday that only creative unemployed youths would benefit from the first tranche of the N25 billion State Employment Trust Fund loan scheme.
Ambode made the disclosure at a Youth Empowerment Programme organised by the `Eleniyancare Leadership Foundation’ in Epe, Lagos state featuring over 1,000 youths drawn from across the state.
The empowerment programme is entitled: “Unlocking the Potentials Within: Making your Ideas Work.”
The programme is convened at the instance of Mr Segun Olulade, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health Services.
The governor, who was represented by Prince Babatunde Durosimi-Etti, said that the fund would soon be released to only deserving creative entrepreneurial youths as loan.
NLC, TUC call off strike in Niger
The indefinite strike embarked upon by the organised labour in Niger had been called off, following the intervention of the Speaker of the State Assembly, Malam Ahmed Marafa.
The Niger State Chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had started the strike on Monday to protest deductions in workers’ salaries.
At the meeting, Marafa solicited for a truce between the labour and the state government in order to reduce the hardship the action had brought on the people.
“We were able to reach very impressive headway and on a happy note, an agreement has been reached, after series of deliberation,” he said.
On the part of the NLC Chairman, Idris Ndako, labour would end the strike when some conditions agreed on by the government are met.
“In our resolution, it was agreed that all workers in the state be paid their salaries in full.
“The state government will make available the sum of N1.35 billion monthly for a period of three months starting from this month (July).
“We will undertake staff screening to determine the payment of workers.
“The balance amount for June will be paid after the screening and to be handled by the organised Labour.
“And with the above resolution, we have agreed to end the strike and no worker shall be victimised or dealt with because of the strike,” he said.
Also the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Danyaya, said that government had resolved to reach an agreement with labour for industrial harmony to reign in the state.
“Henceforth, all civil servants from level 17 downwards will be paid by the organised Labour as government will pay salaries directly to Labour.
“Government has given labour the sum of N1.35 billion for July salary,” he said.
The agreement to end the strike was signed for the state government by the Secretary to the State Government while the chairman of the NLC signed for the organised labour.
Mass arrest after coup failed in Turkey
Some 2,839 soldiers, including high-ranking officers, have been arrested over an attempted coup that is now over, says Turkey’s PM Binali Yildirim.
In a night he called a “black stain on Turkish democracy”, he said 161 people had been killed and 1,440 wounded.
Explosions and gunfire were heard in Ankara, Istanbul and elsewhere overnight and thousands of Turks heeded President Erdogan’s call to rise up against the coup-plotters.
It is not clear who is behind the coup.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed a “parallel structure”, in a clear reference to Fethullah Gulen, a powerful but reclusive US-based Muslim cleric he accuses of fomenting unrest.
However, in a statement, Mr Gulen rejected any suggestion he had links to the events, saying he condemned “in the strongest terms, the attempted military coup in Turkey”.
