Psalm 42

HELP IN GOD
Why, my soul are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him... Ps 42:11

Psalm 42 captured the distress, anguish and pains of the psalmist. There is a high probability that Psalm 42 accompanies Psalm 43. They appeared as one entity.


The writer chronicled his laments, the fact that he was exiled and away from God. He missed the jubilation and celebration that characterizes the house of God. He was sad because he knew he had lost something precious which he was yearning for.

Unfortunately, it was a double tragedy because the enemies too were mocking him (vv. 3-4). They were asking where his God was. His situation compelled him to remember his descent and his relationship with the God who had helped him in the time past.

Beloved, God remains the Rock (v.9) that does not fail. Even if it appears or feels as if He has forgotten, know that He has not and will not. God is the hope of the hopeless. In your helplessness He will help you.

He gives strength to the weak He will strengthen and support you. He knows whatever you may be going through only be encouraged to come to Him. Put your trust in Him because you will soon praise Him (v.11).

Pray with this: For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring. Isaiah 44:3
