Igbo Leaders Converge On Owerri for Unity Forum

Owerri – Igbo leaders are expected to converge on Owerri, the Imo capital on Thursday to discuss the way forward for the South East geo-political zone. This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Chief Gary Igariwey, the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the pan – Igbo socio-cultural organization.

The theme of the forum is `Ndigbo and the State of the Nation: Prospects and Challenges.’ Igariwey said the event, first of its kind would hold at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC), Owerri.
Expected to attended the programme are all the past and current South East governors, while Sen. Jim Nwobodo is scheduled to be the chairman of the occasion, Other guests expected at the forum include retired Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, Prof. Anya O. Anya, former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, former service chiefs, past and present members of state and national assemblies. Others are former and serving ministers, political appointees, traditional rulers, town union leaders, the clergy as well as women and youth groups.
Igariwey said that the event would offer Ndigbo the needed opportunity to brainstorm on the state of the nation and the way forward. A communiqué is expected at the end of the meeting.
