Philippians 1:20-26

IN CHRIST FOR OTHERS

But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.... Philippians 1:24-25, NIV

A mother was telling her six-year-old about the Golden Rule. ‘Always remember’ she said, ‘that we are here to help others.’ The youngster mulled this over for a minute and then asked, ‘Well, what are the others here for’?

Paul was in prison when he wrote this epistle to the Philippian church. He faced a capital punishment yet his mind was upon Christ - upon exalting Christ in his body (v. 20). He knew that he was in Christ for the benefits of others. The only place that men can see Jesus Christ living is in the body or life of a believer. Are you in Christ for money, possessions, comfort, position, recognition, honour, popularity, and gratification? Or are you in Christ for others? Paul’s heart longed to reach others and to meet the needs of a world that reels under the weight of desperation (v. 24-26). This shows that, great Christian believers have one great willingness - to serve sacrificially.
