Philippians 3:7-14
PRESSING ON IN CHRIST
“I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14, NIV
One thing is obvious from the passage for today’s devotion, Paul’s only hope was Christ and Christ alone. Paul believed that if he trusted Jesus Christ, sought after the righteousness and perfection of Jesus Christ with all that he was and had, God
would take his faith and count it as righteousness. Hence, Paul ignored his past successes and failure as he pressed on in Christ towards the goal, trusting in the Lord despite his circumstances. A Christian is like a runner who looks forward to crossing the finishing line.
It is true that no person achieves perfection on this earth. However, there is no such thing as a genuine believer sitting still after he has been saved. A believer must not become comfortable, complacent, lethargic, lazy or begin to think that he is safe and secure forever; therefore, he can sometimes do what he likes and give in to his own desires. Are you still keeping your eyes on the goal? Are you still pressing on in Christ?
