A 25 year old computer expert and driver,Mayowa Adenuga has been arrested along with his accomplices, Adewale Opeyemi (18) andJeremiah Iyitoye (29) for stealing the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card of his boss and withdrawing the sum of N2.7m
Reports say Adenuga stole ATM card of his boss,Prof. Simbo Banjoko, who is a lecturer in theUniversity of Lagos (UNILAG), and used a software to extract his PIN.
He also allegedly blocked Banjoko’s phone from receiving alerts from his bank while he was withdrawing the money.
According to Punch, the driver used the money to buy four iPhones, valued at N495,000; one Macbook laptop, valued at N415,000; 10 wristwatches, a Blackberry and a ring.
According to a source, “The suspect is the lecturer’s driver. He is also a computer expert. He hid the ATM card for three days and when he saw that the man did not look for it, he used software to get the PIN. He called Adewale (Opeyemi) and handed over the card to him for safekeeping, saying it belonged to his sister.
“When he drove his boss out again at another time, he had access to the man’s phone and deliberately entered the wrong PUK number three times which led to the blockage of the line.”
The lecturer got to know about the huge withdrawals when he noticed that his phone was blocked, and took it to a technician to unblock it.
The three suspects were arraigned on two counts of stealing at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court.
Recently, a 32-year-old Nigerian Internet fraudster, Olayinka Ilumsa Sunmola, faces a total of 127 years in a US prison after pleading guilty to eight-count charges of preying on and targeting hundreds of women, including residents of the St. Louis area, using fake dating profiles, in order to extort money from them.
