The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group recently declared the intention to march to the Presidential Villa every 72-hours until the abducted Chibok schoolgirls are rescued.
Despite police barricade at the entrance to the Villa, the BBOG group has continued on its mission.
Unity Fountain Abuja, venue of the protest was in a frenzy today, September 6, 2016 as a team of over 100 police officers took over the facility thereby stopping the group from proceeding with its planned protest.
Abiodun Alamatu, a police officer said the police had been ordered to stop the protesters from going to the Villa.
He said: "The way you people are taking this thing is getting out of control."
One of the leaders of the group, Aisha Yesufusaid it was undemocratic to stop protesters from carrying out their march in a peaceful manner.
“If you were the one taken, I will stand stand for you, or is it because you were not taken? If it was your daughter, I will stand for you,” she said.
FCT police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah later issued a statement accusing the BBOG group of creating "unwarranted tension and apprehension among law abiding citizens in the process obstruct legitimate business activities."
The FCT Police boss urged all groups intending to carry out protest within the city to seek approval of the commissioner of police before doing so.
