Budget Padding: EFCC finally goes after Dogara

TheCable is reporting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced covert investigation into allegations of budget padding leveled against Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the House of Representatives.

According to the story, the anti-graft agency is inviting finance directors of federal ministries and agencies to come forward with details of their draft budgets and what was finally approved by the national assembly.

They are billed to make their appearances on different days of the week.
Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, who was axed as chairman of the house appropriations committee in July, had alleged that Dogara alongside his deputy, Yusuf Lasun; chief whip Alhassan Doguwa and minority leader Leo Ogor, made illegal insertions totaling some N450bn into the 2016 budget.
Jibrin has been on a tweeting spree since he first made the allegations, labeling Dogara a “corrupt…shameless fraud” who should be in jail.
An APC committee invited Jibrin over to appear before it in August; in what was an attempt to gag the Kano born lawmaker.
However, Jibrin was back hurling allegations at Dogara soon after the Speaker said budget padding wasn’t corruption.
Dogara had made the comments after emerging from a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the villa.
