Two men have been sentenced to five months in jail respectively for trafficking Indian Hemp.
The Federal High Court, Ibadan, sentenced the suspects identified as Idowu Gbadegesin andBiliaminu Alade today, September 14, 'for unlawfully dealing in psychotropic substance'.
Counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Raphael Himinkaiye, disclosed to the court that the suspects were arraigned on the one-count charge of unlawful possession of Indian Hemp.
The duo was arrested separately at different locations April 22 and May 8 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek, in two separate judgements, convicted the suspects based on the evidence as well as the guilty plea issued by both of the accused.
“Gbadegesin was sentenced to five months in prison which took effect from the day he was arrested .
“Alade was similarly sentenced to five months in prison from the day of his arrest.
“The Cannabis Sativa found in the possession of the convicts shall be destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“The monetary exhibit of N2,100 found on Gbadegesin is hereby forfeited to the federation’s account,” she ordered.
Gbadegesin was arrested after being found in possession of 650g Indian Hemp, while Alade was nabbed with a sack concealing 300g of Canabiss Sativa.
