Nigerian actress and former beauty queen, Yinka Adewale, has noted that financial problems have been one of the major causes of sexual harassment in Nollywood.
She stated this while reacting to questions concerning if she has ever been sexually abused.
In an interview published by Punch News on Saturday, September 3, 2016, Adewale said that creating one's movie is better than having to feature in projects developed by other movie makers.
According to the actress who is now a film producer, having to seek roles may give rise to sexual harassment.
"No, I have never been sexually harassed but harassment is a product of financial challenges."
"If you do not have any financial constraint, you will not need to go and beg anybody except you are soliciting for a role because they do not know you yet."
"That is why it is advisable to start your own movie, get other brilliant actors to feature in it and it would boost your profile as an actor."
She shared her strong belief that getting support for a film project usually comes at a price, as there are cases of male sponsors demanding for something in return.
"Yes, lack of financial support could lead to an actress facing sexual harassment."
"When you need a sponsor for your project and you approach some men, they would not support you except they are getting something in return."
Her journey to venturing into movie production hasn't been without a cost.
The actress who is currently studying Theatre Arts at the University of Lagos, revealed that she has had to miss academic activities on some occasions due to the demands of her job.
Adewale is expected to premiere her debut movie, "Voiceless Scream" on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The movie features performances from actors such as Jide Kosoko, Yemi Sholade , Victor Olaotan, Shaffy Bello, Uru Eke and others.
