Stupid love: 19-yr-old girl commits suicide after boyfriend dumps her

A 19-year-old student has reportedly committed suicide after her boyfriend jilted her for another girl he impregnated.

Jessica Beer, a student of Dyege Memorial College, Akpehe, in Makurdi,  took her own life today, September 14.
A friend of the victim disclosed to Punch that Jessica killed herself because her boyfriend identified simply as Ladi, left her for another girl.

The source who pleaded anonymity added that Jessica who was vomiting blood, fell off her bed to the ground.
“The previous night, my friend (Jessica) had brought a sharp knife to my house and had asked me to accompany her to the boyfriend’s house, with the threat that she would deal with the boy. But I advised her not to do anything rash,” she said.
Jessica's parents reportedly rushed her to Yiman Hospital, Akpehe, after discovering her body, where doctors confirmed that she died 30 minutes earlier.
Mrs Atser Terkimbi who is the Chief nurse at the hospital revealed that when Jessica was brought to the hospital, she was foaming at the mouth which was caused by the substance she had ingested which eventually took her life.
Upon a visit from correspondents of Punch Newspaper, the circumstances surrounding the teen's death was openly discussed.
Expressing her shock over the sad events, the school's proprietress, Mrs Mercy Dyege, described Jessica's actions as “barbaric, uncalled for and ungodly.”
“This kind of incident has never occurred in my school and I condemn this behaviour in strong terms,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jessica's teacher, Mr. Timothy Tyoyange,  described the deceased as an average student who had seemed interested in learning.
He said, “Jessica was a beautiful young girl and in our last speech, prize and graduation day, she contested in the Miss Dyege pageant organised by the college and won the crown.”
The Benue State Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, while confirming the incident, added that further investigations into the case had commenced.
