REQUESTING, THEN RECEIVING HELP

For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:8, NIV

In his book, Prayer of Jabez, Bruce Wilkinson told the story of an Irish man, Connor O’Reilly who had to eat stale bread for days while travelling on a ship. O’Reilly did not know that the fee he paid to get aboard covered his meal as long as he was on that
ship. While he was eating stale bread, others aboard the same ship were feeding on delicious meals, three times a day. The blessings were already there, but O’Reilly never claimed them.

How many Christians today get on with stale bread because they do not claim all that is rightfully theirs in Christ Jesus? Some argue that since God is omniscient, He should know our needs and supply us accordingly. Yes, God has abundance in store, but we must demonstrate our willingness to receive from Him. Much more than just receiving our daily needs, God longs to be in a continual and fulfilling love relationship with us and prayer is one way of achieving this. So, will you ask so you can receive today?
