Sleep — we all need it, but are we getting enough of it? Between research and studies, there are a few things that you can do to improve the quality of your nightly rest: having a nightly routine, getting ready to hit the hay early, having a nutritious dinner, or even taking the time to have a bath. But did you know that breaking one habit is key to having a good night’s sleep? A new study shows that not looking at your smartphone before bed is a way to ensure that you get a good night’s rest.
According to the study, the research looked at people’s sleep habits and the frequency with which they looked at their smartphones before bed. The results are astounding — the more time you spend looking at your smartphone, the worse your quality of sleep that night.
On top of making your sleep quality worse and cutting into the hours in which you could be dreaming, scrolling through Facebook before bed can make you have a harder time falling asleep altogether.
The cool thing is that participants in this study were part of a larger ongoing project called the Health eHeart Study, used to examine how our medical histories and lifestyle habits work in sync (or not) to create all around healthy lives.

So before you go to sleep tonight, be sure to put down your phone and turn off that ringer – you could be getting an extra hour of sleep and wake up feeling more refreshed as a result!
