Nigerian Customs Intercept Container Loaded With 440 Pump Action Rifle At Lagos Port

Barely 4 months after the Nigerian Customs intercepted a container of 49 boxes containing 661 AK47 rifles in Lagos in January, the customs has again intercepted another container-load of arms and ammunition..



A source at the port told PREMIUM TIMES the container was found at the Ports and Cargo Terminal of the Tin Can Island Ports, which confirms the fear of the reps about a planned coup..

An Assistant Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Zone A, Abueh M.N, who briefed journalists at Tincan Island port, venue of the seizure said the command was able to make the breakthrough through intelligence gathering.. 


He then added that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the seizure. According to him, the consignment originated from Turkey, adding that the guns were manufactured in the United States of America.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs, Tin Can Island Command, Uche Ejesieme, confirmed the incident and said details would be made public later.
