Sport Scene: Luka Modric Issues Warning To Alvaro Morata Over Chelsea Transfer

Real Madrid star midfielder, Luka Modric has issued a warning to soon to be former clubmate, Alvaro Morata about joining Chelsea.

According to the Croatian, the striker ‘can only go down’ if he decides to leave Real Madrid.

Reports emerged shortly after the Premier League champions lost out to Manchester United in the race for Romelu Lukaku, Antonio Conte is now considering a move for the Spain international along with Torino forward Andrea Belotti.

The Chelsea manager had attempted to sign Morata last summer and the striker has admitted that he would welcome the chance to work under the Italian.

Madrid had been in negotiations with United over a deal for Morata this summer but their refusal to lower their €90m (£79m) asking price pushed Jose Mourinho towards agreeing a move for Lukaku.

Morata admits he wants more playing time after starting only 18 games last season, but Modric believes players should think twice before leaving the Spanish champions.

The former Tottenham midfielder told Marca;

‘It’s certainly not an easy decision to leave Madrid,’
‘When you leave here, nothing is the same. You’re at the best club in the world, that’s for sure, and from there you can only go down.
‘Everyone will have their reasons. If I continue like this, I will do everything possible to stay, but things in football change fast.’
