I’m In Charge, Not My Nephew — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, debunked allegations that his nephew, Mamman Daura, was in charge of the affairs at the Presidency.
Buhari stated this in an interview with an on-air-presenter, Osasu Igbinedion, on her show, The Osasu show, which was monitored by our correspondent on the programme’s YouTube page.
Asked whether it was true that Daura, following his perceived strong influence over Buhari, was acting as unofficial president, as being alleged in some quarters, Buhari noted that, as the duly elected president of the country, he was in charge of the Federal Government.
He said, “Sahara Reporters, I don’t know where they got their information from. I stood for the election; I visited every local government in Nigeria by air, by road and so on. And we had one of the most credible elections. So, whoever feels that he has lost (out) somehow is his own problem, I have no problem.”
Buhari further said the Presidential Committee on the North East would ensure that the monies donated for humanitarian aid in the North East to tackle malnutrition among children in Internally Displaced Persons camps would be judiciously used.
He said the former general in charge of the committee was one ‘reputed for his integrity.’
“His headquarters is situated in the presidency, he’s got some staff and there is legal instrument developed on how this money would be spent. So, whoever has got any money to contribute or food items will go and make a presentation.
“We have a list of infrastructure, especially educational infrastructure, and it is up to them to go and choose what they would do,” the President said.
UNICEF estimates that about a quarter of a million children are malnourished in the North East as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.

51 Things Every Woman Should Know By Gloria Ogunbadejo

  • Her Minimums and Maximums. Those things that she is committed to never allowing herself to accept. The point at which she will not go any lower. The level at which she will not push any further. Also, how far she is prepared to go if need be.
  • When it’s time to say NO. Understanding when that is the only answer you can offer and accepting it’s okay to say it.
  • When to break away and move on. This may mean severing ties with a girlfriend, lover, family member, a crippling job, and bad habits.
  • What she weighs. Bite the bullet and get on those weighing scales. Know what you are dealing with and face up to it.
  • What her blood pressure reads. Too many of us are walking time bombs, not having a clue of what is ticking inside of us. Go and get things checked out even if it’s only to be reassured and if not, to do something about it.

A nation bound in freedom Who is a Nigerian(1)? By Ayo Sogunro

1914—Lugard’s mistake?
Geo-politically, the Nigerian nationality is no different from other African states that emerged through a result of the colonisation process of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, Nigeria has a peculiar—and possibly, humourous—feature of being a national entity invented solely for the ease of the British administration. This was the amalgamation of two British protectorates and one colony: the Northern Protectorate of Nigeria, the Southern Protectorate of Nigeria, and the Colony of Lagos. These protectorates were distinct sociopolitical entities whose only common factor were their many differences from each other. Nevertheless, these two entities form the basis for the country as it is today. But, is there really a nation called Nigeria? And what are the implications of its existence?

Intellectual Property Protection In The Fashion Industry By Kaine Agary

Lagos, like London, Milan, New York and Paris, is a fashion hub. With brands like Heineken and GTBank, and the Bank of Industry putting their weight behind the fashion industry, it is safe to assume that the distant cousin (fashion) in the creative industry just got an invite to the family party. There is no doubt that beyond making us a fashionable people, the fashion industry cannot be ignored as a vehicle for driving economic development.

Presidency Has No Right To Question Any Judge — Okocha

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Onueze Okocha, in this interview with TOBI AWORINDE, criticises the Presidency for seeking the resignation of judges and justices being probed for alleged corrupt practices
What is your position on the arrest of judges by the Department of State Service?
It is strange and very bizarre. Judges, including justices of the highest court in the land, are not common criminals that anybody who wants to arrest would go in the early hours of the day or at night to arrest them or to execute a search warrant under very suspicious and irregular circumstances. Secondly, we know that the body
