Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor for the National Open University, has requested for the assistance of the National Assembly in order to ensure the availability of education to women and girls, who have been exempted due to cultural affiliations.
Adamu said this during a courtesy visit toSenator Barau Jibrin, who represents Kano North Senatorial Zone, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
According to Leadership, the university VC explained that lack of education has deprived women in the northern region of Nigeria from participating in nation building.
Adamu appealed to members of the National Assembly to actively promote Open and Distance Learning in their constituents.
According to him, it will help get people to acquire education in the deep roots of some northern communities.
This was met with optimism by Senator Barau Jibrin, who expressed his commitment in ensuring that the goal of the National Open University is achieved.
