Stepen Keshi: Former Super Eagles player, coach dead at 54

Stephen Keshi, former Super Eagles player and coach is dead, reports say.

The revered football player and coach is reported to have passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigerian online publication, The Cable reports.
Keshi’s death was confirmed from a member of his family as well as one of his close associates, The Cable adds.

He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of his wife,” a friend told the publication.
Keshi lost his wife to cancer in 2015. They were married for 33 years. He is survived by four children and his mother.
Keshi played for the Super Eagles from 1981 to his last outing in 1995, winning the African Nations Cup at Tunisia ’94.
As a coach, he managed the senior teams at Togo, Mail as well as the Super Eagles of Nigeria where he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, becoming the second person to win the trophy both as a player and a coach.
