James 5:7-12

PATIENT MERCY

Behold the farmer waits for the precious fruits of the earth being patient over it until it receives the early and late rain. James 5:7b, RSV

If you are the type who is always in a hurry to have anything, you will surely lack this divine attribute of showing patient mercy. This implies waiting patiently until somebody is able to turn a new leaf. It also means withholding punishment that is
due to another because you are anticipating that that person will change for the better. This typifies the kind of love that God has for the sinner. He restrains from destroying sinners because He s patiently waiting for them to change.

In like manner, God wants you to be patient as you run the heavenly race awaiting the second appearing of our Lord and Savour Jesus Christ. Every stage of growth has its challenges. Verses 8-9 of our passage admonishes us to be patient, avoid grumbling and engage not in strife, rather we should be steadfast and sincere, transparent and upright n all our dealings. Again, how patient are you in showing mercy to others? We have great cloud of witnesses ahead of us who had run with patience and true faith by God’s mercy. We cannot afford to do less.

Birthday Blessing: “I will accept you as fragrant incense when I bring you out from the nations.” Ezekiel 20:41

RBT Passage Ps. 43-48: Rom. 9

If we have not quiet in our minds, outward comfort will do no more for us than a golden slipper on a gouty foot. —John Bunyan
