Luke 14:15-23

DINNER WILL BE SERVED

"When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus: Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God." Luke 14:15, NIV

Jesus in today's passage told the parable of a man who planned a large banquet and sent out invitation but his guests declined the invitation with flimsy excuses. He used this to illustrate the metaphor of the kingdom of God which was initially meant for a particular group of people the doors of salvation to the Gentiles (the unworthy) and the blessings of the kingdom are now available to all who will come to Him by faith.

Those who ignore an invitation to the banquet chose their own punishment as the Master said, "They will not taste in my banquet." In like manner, those who reject Christ's offer of salvation will not taste the joy of heaven. We must not behave like those who were first invited and later turned away to their earthly concerns as if the invitation was less important.

God will never accept apologies and excuses for not being interested in the heavenly feast prepared for us. If you are already saved, keep moving in the process of sanctification; but if not, this another opportunity. God is still inviting you to give Him a place in your heart and be part of the blessings of the kingdom both here and in eternity.

Pray with this: Who then is a faithful and wise servant...blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find doing so (Matt. 24:45-46).
