The Premier League is back in action this weekend as teams from around the country are ready to fight for yet another round of 3 points on offer this weekend.
Like every weekend, the domestic league has yet again provided some top class games for the neutral to watch and there are some interesting matchups that can light up the weekend.
13 games into the season, the points table is taking shape and every point has become more and more important, leading into the busy festive period making this weekend an interesting round.Here are 10 talking points from the games in the Premier League this weekend:
Game of the week:
In what can easily be the game of the season, Antonio Conte’s top of the table Chelsea, travel to the Etihad to take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who are just a point behind. A win in this game can take either side to the top of the table making this clash one of the most interesting and important ones this season.
Palace test for the Saints:
The Saints managed to hold on to a one goal victory last weekend against Everton and are back in action this weekend as they travel to the Selhurst Park to face a Palace side that is fresh from a demoralizing 5-4 loss to Swansea. It is a game Puel’s side is expected to win but can as easily produce some nervy moments.
Can Stoke make it into the top half?
After a mediocre start to the domestic season, Stoke City have now established themselves in the middle of the points table in the domestic league and will take on a decent Burnely side this weekend at home. A win for either side can take them close to the top half of the table, giving this game a bit more weight.
High time for the Champions:
Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City have made good progress in Europe but are currently just a couple of points off the drop zone. They travel to the Stadium of Light this weekend to face a Sunderland side that is threatened with relegation and should take a result to start moving away from the bottom 3.
Spurs need goals:
The Tottenham Hotspur side have won just one of their last 5 games in the domestic league and are slowly losing some form this season. However, they face a relatively easy task this weekend as they take on a struggling Swansea side in search of all three points to compete at the top of the Premier League table.
Yet another London derby:
For the 4th week running, the Premier League has set up yet another derby clash this week as Arsene Wenger will travel to the new Olympic Stadium to take on a West Ham side that are fresh from a draw at the Old Trafford. The Hammers have proven hard to beat and the Gunners need to be at their best to take all three points and keep their place at the top of the points table.
Battle of the surprises:
The Baggies and the Hornets are two teams which have found some consistency early this season and occupy the 9th and the 8th spot respectively. They take on each other at the Hawthorns this weekend as they look to fight for early supremacy in the top half of the points table.
Cherries test for the Reds:
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are fresh from a victory over Sunderland at the weekend and will be hoping to put in a similar performance this weekend against Bournemouth away from home. They are in decent form going into this game but the Cherries, playing at home, are expected to give the Reds a tough test on the night.
Battle of the strugglers:
Aitor Karnaka’s Middlesbrough are fresh from a draw against Leicester City and will travel to the KCOM stadium this weekend as they take on a struggling Hull City side. The tigers are also fresh from a draw against the Baggies and this game can give one of the teams a lifeline out of the relegation battle.
6 vs 7:
In what can turn out be the match of the week, Manchester United will travel to the Goodison Park this week to take on an impressive Everton side fighting for all three points. A win in this game can take the winner to the 5th place in the table, and with stakes that high, this game is bound to produce some interesting action.
