Authorities of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, have said that the institution will reopen on Friday.
Registrar of the school, Mr. Jacob Agboola said this in a statement sent to the students and members of staff of the institution on Monday.
“All staff and students are hereby informed that the University will reopen for normal activities on Friday, January 27, 2017. All students who have yet to complete their
registration are to ensure that they do so and pay their tuition fees during the revision week. On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate and Management, headed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. S. Gbadegesin, we wish you all the best,’’ the statement read.
The reopening of the institution is coming nine months after it was shut down, following the decision of workers to down tools in protest against the non-payment of their salaries.
It would be recalled that students of the university had recently staged a protest at Government House in Ibadan, Oyo State. During the protest, the students met with Governor Abiola Ajimobi who disclosed that a sum of N600m had been earmarked by Oyo and Osun states to pay the striking workers and get the institution reopened. Ajimobi had promised the students that the school would be reopened before the end of the month.
Reacting to the protest, the Special Adviser to Ajimobi on Communications and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka had said, “It is important to note that the school was not shut by the state government. It was shut by the management of the school and it will be reopened by the management of the school. The concern of the government is to do whatever can be done while we are still awaiting the report of the panel headed by Chief Wole Olanipekun.’’
