1 Kings 2:1-4
A FAITHFUL HEIR WILL SUCCEED
“And keep the charge of the LORD your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes…that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn.” 1 Kings 2:3

Solomon, the heir to David’s throne, was successful in all his dealings because of his obedience to the wise counsel of his God-fearing father. This shows that it is just not enough to be an heir; one must also be found faithful. David was very meticulous in the instructions he gave to Solomon which were: to walk in God’s ways, to keep His statutes, commandments, judgements, and testimonies. An average person may see these as too cumbersome, but not the serious-minded Solomon.
Today, believers in Christ have become heirs to all that God has because of our relationship with the Lord Jesus. However, it is necessary for us to note that so many professed Christians are not benefiting from these gracious provisions because they are not careful to keep the divine charges and conditions attached to the provision. As a child of God, you cannot live in adultery, fornication or other sins and at the same time claim divine protection and provision as your right. God does not work that way, He is a righteous God and expects everyone that is called by His name to be righteous and obedient.
