2 PETER 1:3-11
"For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure; they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:8, NIV
We live in a world characterised by violence, wickedness, cruelty, injustice, prejudice and hatred. Considering this, one may wonder if it is possible to build a peaceful lifestyle, especially when wickedness and violence are on the increase every day.
The answer is "Yes" because verse 3 of our text says, "His divine power has given us everything we need for life..." Apostle Paul in his epistle to the people at Philippi says, " I can do everything through Him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13). Through the instrumentality of God's Spirit, we can build peaceful lifestyles in our homes, society and our world.
Looking at our society and world today, Christians should realise that building peaceful lifestyles is a task that calls for urgency. The qualities we need to do this are listed in verses 6-7 of our text.
These qualities will produce virtues that will give us inner peace personally and this will radiate through us to our society at large. Our Lord Jesus Christ says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9). So building a peaceful lifestyle is not optional for believer, it is imperative. May the Lord enable you to be a man or woman of peace.
Pray with this: I have set the Lord always before me, because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken (Psalm 16:8)
RBT Passage: Ps. 132-138; 1 Cor.10
We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirement of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.- Charles Kingsley
